Finished a meeting in KL and decided to eat somewhere nearby so we went to Fahrenheit 88 (formerly KL Plaza) to eat at this ramen place that April has raved about.

This is a specialty restaurant, only serving a limited amount of dishes. In fact, there’s only four (4) types of ramen you can choose from. I took the house specialty – Marutama Ra-men (RM18) – ramen in chicken soup with a slice of Char Siu – with an additional topping of Ajitsuke Tamago (RM 2) – seasoned egg.

I wouldn’t actually call it “soup”. It’s really thick and rich that its almost like a broth than stock. The char siu was really fatty tho. But the star of the whole dish was the egg. Its like boiled egg with a runny egg yolk and was super yummy.

Here’s a picture of the menu taken from Rebecca of the Nomad Gourmand

Would I come again? Yes, if I was in the area. If not for the ramen, definitely for the egg.

Located in Millennium Square PJ, Piccadilly’s is a great shop to hangout. The food is nice and the price is ok. They have like more than 200 foods and drinks listed on the menu ranging from Westerns, Italians, Indians, Chinese and of course Local delights. We have been going to Piccadilly’s for quite number of times already, but only recently took pictures of the food we ordered.

Tandoori Chicken (RM5.00) – quarter of chicken marinated in red colored spices. Nice but nothing special about it. Served with mint sauce and some veggies.

Spicy Fried Calamari (RM9.00) – deep fried calamari served with Thais chili sauce, my girl said not as nice as the prawn fritter. As for me it doesn’t deserves a “spicy” title if it only meant to be dipped in the chili sauce.

Cream of Mushroom (RM3.00) – a bowl of mushroom soup that comes with a piece of toasted bread which is (I quote from my girl) “TAK SEDAP”. I don’t really know what to comments as I hate creamy soup.

Mutton Beriyani (RM9.90) – I ordered this to try the mutton and apparently it’s quite nice. A bowl of mutton beriyani with beriyani rice plus half of boiled egg and some veggies. I’m quite disappointed that they don’t allow us to order only the mutton as it only served as a set. Too bad I can’t have it with naan.

5. Baked Seafood (RM10.90) – my girl ordered this is and from the first scoop of it, it’s noticeable that the dish is rich with cheese. I mean REALLY RICH. It’s like you’re having pieces of seafood in cheese >.< but I wonder why didn’t they served it with (garlic) bread instead it was served with French fries and veggies.

For desserts, ABC Special (RM4.00) for my girl and Peach Banana Split (RM6.90) for me

As for the drinks my girl ordered a (so-so) Peppermint Paddy (RM7.90) and Mango Pimlico (RM4.90) – more of a dessert than a drink – for me. Sorry no images of those. Oh, and they charge RM0.50 for iced/warm water.

So all and all, the food is nice, the environment is nice and the price also nice. I would suggest this shop you to give it a try. Keep in mind that even though I mention that some of the food is not really nice, it is only based on our taste buds and well u still have more than 200 choices to choose from >.<

There’s this shop next to Sushi Zanmai in One Utama that is rather like a grocery store. After some digging around, i found that the shop is called Shojikiya – The Japanese Food Specialty Store.

They were selling their ice cream at RM5.90 each for any selection. They also have family packs (bigger packs of the icecream). G and I popped in the other day to have some icecream.

G had the Blueberry Cheesecake Flavoured ‘Cake stick’ and I had the Fish shaped wafer icecream (Click for bigger pics)

The Cake Stick is ‘cheesecake’ flavoured iced confectionary with some blueberry jam inside it. Its not smooth milk based icecream but rather a frozen type of icecream, like frozen yogurt or something. Quite nice though I find it a bit weird to have artificially flavoured cheesecake icecream.

I had this fish-shaped icecream. Its a soft wafer molded in a fish shape. Inside is white vanilla icecream with a layer of red beans at the bottom of it. Its really good. Not too sweet and not too much icecream or too much red beans. I would really buy this again. This icecream is sold in Sushi King for almost rm10!

We also took the opportunity to browse through their small shop. They have so much stuff there ranging from plum drinks, little sweet cookies, cake mix (you know, like those Betty Crocker stuff), chocolate, sweets and of course ice cream. Will check out more of the other products later

The bf and I have been wanting to eat at a Japanese buffet for some time now. The nearest for me would be Shogun but I’ve heard that the food quality has dropped/is not so good so I didn’t want to try it. Plus, there’s always a huge line and I hate waiting.

After googling and reading other food blogs, I found that Rakuzen or (Raku Zen) in Chulan Square offers an All You Can Eat for lunch (1.00 – 3.00 pm) on Sundays. This was even better than eating a buffet because you can just order and they will make it fresh for you.

The presentation and setting of our table. We had green tea. The green leaf shaped thing is wasabi.

The very extensive All-You-Can-Eat menu. You can order everything and anything from this menu

Soft shell crab temaki (handroll) and assorted Sashimi

The soft shell crab temaki was nice but there wasn’t anything special about it. The assorted sashimi tasted quite fresh – no yukky fishy smell. Its 2 slices each of maguro (tuna), shiromi (white fish), sake (salmon), ika (cuttlefish) and tako (octopus). It was my first time eating the cuttlefish raw – can’t say I like the taste,. I love the tuna tho (the reddish meat). The octopus was kinda rubbery but that is expected.

I just love this Chuku Lidako (and so does my sister who was so jealous when I MMS-ed her this pic). Its baby octopus cooked in a reddish sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. I really love the Japanese cold dishes and so does the bf.

Chuku Lidako (baby octopus) and Edemame (boiled green soya beans)

Then we edamame which are boiled green soya beans. Aree likes these beans. It has small fine hairs outside the pod and you only eat the beans inside. These tasted like they were perhaps boiled for a bit too long because they were a bit squishy. Yummy nonetheless.

Mixed sushi

We also had a plate of mixed sushi. From the top left : Tamagoyaki (omelette), ebikko (shrimp roe), inari (sweet bean curd stuffed with rice), inari (eel), ni hotate (boiled scallop), wasn’t really sure what was the 2nd one, octopus, ebi (prawn), cuttlefish, salmon, white fish and tuna.

Mix skewered grill

We also had a plate of mix skewered grill. It was two sticks each of shiitake mushrooms (which you can’t really see on the pic but its the far left), shishamo (smelt fish) and yakitori (chicken). Its my first time eating smelt fish which is commonly known as pregnant fish. Its stomach was full of fish eggs but for some reason I just can’t accept the taste of smelt fish.

Green tea icecream

OH MY GOD! This was SOOOO good. Let me repeat that. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. I had 2 scoops (wanted more but the bf looked at me one kind already). Im usually not a big fan of green tea but this icecream utterly blew me away.

Besides all the food that I took pic of above, we also had

- Chilli ika (chilli cuttlefish) which wasn’t that spicy either

- My absolute favourite Chuka Kurage (seasoned jellyfish)

- Chawanmushi – steamed egg. Also so very sedap and silky smooth

- Agedashi Toufu – Fried taufu (tempura) with sauce. This one was not so nice. The sauce lacked taste and the taufu was big when it should be smaller.

As you can see, we had so much to eat and I found it very worth it. I would so come here again if I had the money

I’ve been wanting to try out this place since it opened in the Curve but for some reason I never got round to actually doing so. Finally, I managed to drag Jef to have dinner with me here to check out the food and place.

Like most Japanese restaurants, Sakae Sushi has the conveyer belt that serves little colourful plates of sushi. Their prices range from RM1.90 to RM5.90 per plate. There was this nice eggroll sushi we had – it has soft shell crab inside and was wrapped with egg. Cant remember the name but it was yummy!

Ordering is also a breeze here. Every table is equipped with a monitor and a mouse so all you have to do is choose what do you want to order and then when it’s cooked, they’ll send it to you. There is also a hot water tap at each table. This is when you order green tea – they’ll give you a cup and a teabag of green tea and you can refill whenever you want.

I had the Saba Shiyaki & Taufu (cant remember what they called the taufu) which consists of a bowl of rice, miso soup, lightly fried fish & deep fried tofu in soy sauce. Price : RM18.90

The food here is good and quite reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
